- Collection days begin at 7:00 a.m. and usually end around 4:30 p.m. Carts should be placed at the street by 7:00 a.m. on collection days and removed by sunset on collection days. DO NOT place your roll cart in the street.
- Schedule modifications due to City holidays will be announced on our website and on social media
- During bad weather in the winter months - especially in snowy and icy conditions - the Sanitation Department will attempt to operate normally, and each resident may choose whether or not to roll out their cart. If collection is postponed entirely, detailed announcements will be made via local media stations and this website.
- The City maintains ownership of the cart at all times and has a serial number that is recorded by residence. Do not trade carts with your neighbors, and notify the public works department in the event of a move - whether in the City or out of the City.
- Cleaning, routine upkeep, and protecting the cart from being stolen is the user's responsibility. Do not mark, paint, write on, cut, or alter the cart in any way. Stolen, damaged, or abused carts are replaced at the expense of the property owner or responsible agent.
- All garbage and refuse must be in plastic bags before being placed in rollcart. (Microwaves, vacuum cleaners, and TV's should be put out with your regular garbage but not in the rollcart. See E-Waste/E-Cycle information below.)
- During the week, between collections, store your rollcart away from the street side. Always place the lid back on the cart when you deposit trash to keep rain and neighborhood pets out.
- The cart must not be used for any other purpose than storing and collecting garbage.
- Do not place items such as Poisons, Acids, Caustics, Explosives, Construction Materials (i.e. concrete, wood, bricks, etc.), Furniture, Oils, Gasoline, Paint*, & Paint Thinner, Kerosene, Toxic Substances, etc
*Remove the lids from paint cans and mix with kitty litter or concrete, and let the contents completely dry. Once in a solid state throw into the rollcart with the household garbage.
The Sanitation Department WILL NOT remove contractor generated debris such as tree surgeon waste, shingles, building materials, cross ties, or special waste.
The Sanitation department is extremely sensitive to the needs of the disabled citizens in Fountain Inn. Special accommodations are made to assist these residents with garbage pickup. When a request is made and substantiated due to health issues and physical inability to put garbage at the street-side, the department provides back door pickup for these residents. Other special assistance in extenuating circumstances can also be provided by calling the department and speaking with the Sanitation Supervisor.

Residential customers are responsible for maintaining trash and recycling containers in a clean and sanitary condition. The City of Greenville does not offer container cleaning services. Containers are not replaced due to dirty grime or unpleasant odors.
To help keep your cart clean:
Bag and tie household trash that goes into the green trash cart.
Rinse and dry recyclables before placing in the blue recycle cart.
Spray and rinse container on occasion to reduce odors and dirty grime buildup. Using a non-hazardous cleaning solution (like dishwashing soap and baking soda) is recommended.
